Iain headed up to DMH Blacksmiths this morning to provide a bespoke 1 day First Aid Course for some of their team. Bit of a change of scene from our usual outdoor stuff but with our background in the oil and gas industry we were equally at home! Thanks to DMH for asking us to be involved and for the awesome
First Aid Courses with Avium Ltd
Along with all our Event Medical Cover going on just now, we've got lots of First Aid Course coming up in Autumn. We've been working with organisations and companies to bring them bespoke Outdoor First Aid Course to suit their exact needs. Below are some examples:
Remote First Aid
We're working with a utility company who were looking for Remote Outdoor First Aid and Lone worker training for employees who will be working in remote environments in the Scottish Mountains.
Mountain Guides Outdoor First Aid
With our experience in providing medical assistance in the mountains we're teaming up with some local Mountain Guides to provide a bespoke 2 Day Outdoor First Aid course to suit their role. We'll be introducing some equipment and protocols in some more depth for this course to pass on to the attendees some of our knowledge gained from Mountain rescue and Ski Patrolling in the Cairngorms.
Rural Workers 1 day Outdoor First Aid
Our popular Rural workers Outdoor First Aid Course will be back this Autumn when we'll be providing the course for two of our local Estates. Our instructors have close links with local estates so we have a great understanding of the work and nature of the task undertaken by the employees, this helps us to deliver a course that is applicable to their roles and the type of first aid incidents they may come across.
Snowsports 2 day First Aid Course
With all our courses being taught by full time Ski Patrollers who better to learn first aid from for Snowsport coaches and Instructors. We'll cover our full 2 day outdoor syllabus and go into more detail about snow related injury and illness, such as, lower leg fractures, knee injuries, hypothermia and avalanche resuscitation protocol.
Event Medical Cover in the Cairngorms!
A busy time for us just now, last sunday we were providing the Medical Cover for Aviemore Triathlon and this weekend we'll be taking care of the Medical and Safety Cover for the Cairngorm section of the Starman Night Triathlon.
We set up at @badaguish at 8am and went down Loch Morlich to cover the swim section. The loch was calm, and a balmy 17degrees!
After the swim, the competitors hopped on their mountain bikes and looped the Glenmore forest, with some gnarly single track at the top of badaguish.
Lastly, the run. They headed up towards the Sluggan pass and finished off back at the event hub at Badaguish.
Another awesome event by Durty Events , well done to everyone who took part!
With the current great weather and high temperature across the country we've put together a great wee info sheet.
A little bit strange for our medical and safety team of 6 to be back on Cairngorm last night providing medical cover for the Starman Night Tri. All the team members work for the Cairngorm Ski Patrol so their used to operating on these slopes during the winter with a little bit more snow, well maybe not last season...
It's always great to catch up with the guys that work with. Whilst Iain was at the event brief at the Loch, the other team members were getting treated to a very fine coffee by Ruari, not a bad way to start the night shift!
As darkness fell, we set out the markers and glow sticks to mark the run route for the Cairngorm section, and got a little rest before the event started at Loch Morlich at midnight.
Unfortunately, the summit of Cairngorm was in thick mist the entire night which reduced the visibility down to around 3 meters at the summit.
It was great to provide the safety and medical cover for the Cairngorm section of the race, to provide this cover we had a full evacuation kit, 2 defibs, resus kits, loads of insulated cas bags/bivi shelters and heat packs. It was good to give our new VW Transporter 4Motion a bit of a test coming up the hill road to the Ptarmigan as well, we're very impressed with how easily it got up.
